How do I sign up?
Reservations can be made over the phone by calling
609-729-7400.  You can also make reservations by visiting Ocean Outfitters Surf Shop at 6101 New Jersey Ave in Wildwood Crest.

Do I need to make reservations?
We highly recommend making reservations in advance, however, we do take last minute walk-ons if there is room.  Space is limited.  Surf Camp tends to fill up 1 to 2 weeks in advance.  Reservations can be made by phone:
609-729-7400 or by coming to Ocean Outfitters.  Reservations are not guaranteed until payment has been received.

What time of year do Surf Camp and Lessons start?
Surf Camp begins the third week in June and ends Labor Day weekend.  It runs Monday through Friday every week.
Private and Group Lessons are available starting in May and run through September.

Would you recommend Surf Camp or Private Lessons?
When deciding consider your budget, time constraints and the personality of the student.  Each has its advantages and disadvantages.  Surf Camp is our most popular class because it gives the student more time in the water and covers more information.  Private Lessons have the benefit of one-on-one instruction.

What is taught in Surf Camp and Lessons?
In all Surf Camps and Lessons students are taught about surfboard parts and terminology, how to correctly pop up, and especially surfing safety.  More detailed topics may be covered in

Surf Camp such as rip currents, tides, wave terminology, etc.

What is your Student to Instructor Ratio?
Our typical student to instructor ratio in Surf Camp and Group Lessons is 3:1.  Given ideal conditions or experienced students our maximum ratio is 5:1

Where do we meet for Surf Camp and Lessons?

After you pay and register with Ocean Outfitters, you will meet your instructors at Rambler Road in Wildwood Crest.

Surf Camp  - Meet your instructors at 9:10am at our big green woody surf truck on Ocean Avenue between Rambler and Primrose Roads

Surf Lessons - Meet your instructor on the beach at the high tide line at the end of the wooden walkway at Rambler Road.  Look for all the surfboards!  Please arrive about 10 minutes prior to your lesson.

Do we need to bring a surfboard?
No. Surfboard and leash are included with all Surf Camps and Lessons.

What do we need to bring with us?
Towel, sweat shirt, sun block, water and snack are recommended.

What is the youngest age you teach?

The minimum age for Surf Camp is 7 years.
There is no age minimum (or maximum) for Private or Group Lessons.

What is Saturday Kids Surf Club?
Kid's Surf Club is a specialized program for children 4-7 (or 8) years old.  We meet for five consecutive Saturdays starting in July.  For more information please see our Kids Club Page or contact Ocean Outfitters.

Does the student need to know how to swim?
Swimming is not a prerequisite, however, if the student has no swimming ability we want to be informed.  Students generally learn to surf in water in which they can stand.  The students that can swim may be guided into deeper water when it is appropriate or necessary.

What information will you need from us?
Our registration form will ask the necessary information we need to know: e.g.. the student’s weight, age, and experience so that we may reserve the proper equipment for the student.  Also, the form will ask for other important information such as phone numbers, address etc.  A parent or guardian must sign for anyone under 18 years old.
